There are various hosting types to choose from when you are now in the process of publishing your website to the world via the Internet. You have a lot of choices to choose from like free hosting, shared or dedicated. Free hosting is free of expenses only that you have limited features and most likely if you are using a content management system you will need to look for a free hosting service that provides at least one database. For paid hosting such as shared and dedicated you get to have unlimited features but between the both there is difference. Shared hosting means you get to share the allocated space you were given with someone else. Dedicated hosting is solely your own only that it is very costly and only recommendable to large business types or those who are very experienced with the web. There is another type of hosting service which is a combination of shared and dedicated hosting which is the VPS hosting.
VPS hosting is the short term of Virtual Private Server which means that you get to have your own allocated space in a single physical server and you get to control the system at your leisure. You can have multiple operating systems running in the virtual server without restarting your computer. Clients have the option to upgrade their virtual servers at the time when their website grows. All software installations and customizations are under the control of the owner. Even if this kind of hosting is far more expensive than shared hosting, you are given the right to control the space given to you like you were just using your own computer. Another great feature of VPS is that you get to upgrade or change the system of your virtual system without affecting other systems in the same physical server.

If dedicated hosting is too much for you, VPS is a good choice if you want to start something small but do not like a crowded server; this is the best hosting service for you. With shared hosting service, if one website has a problem, other websites occupying the same server get the same problems as well. VPS works differently. If it is too confusing for you to visualize, imagine an apartment. An apartment is a single building with a lot of rooms to occupy. You get to choose the room you want and install all the furniture and fixtures and place them where you want it to be. That is how VPS works. You get to install or modify the system in the space given to you without disturbing your neighbors or the other servers having their own system.
There are other features of VPS hosting which is often called as cloud server. It is a dynamic kind of VPS where during runtime hardware resources can be added such as the RAM or CPU. The physical server itself can be placed to another hardware during runtime and it will load automatically only on some occasions.
